Course Outline
This course is for people who require the skills and knowledge to safely operate and maintain an overhead travelling crane
During this course, you will gain knowledge and understanding of:
- The duties of people involved in lifting operations
- Current Legislation and regulations: LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, WAHR 2005, MHOR 1992, ACOPs BS7121 Parts 1 & 2, BS5744
- Crane appreciation, types, applications, limitations and terminology
- Load calculations
- The documentation of lifting equipment and lifting accessories
- Risk assessments and method statements
- The different types of lifting accessories and how to apply them
- Safe working loads (SWL), the working load limits of lifting accessories and mode factors
- Communication and signalling procedures
- Inspecting the crane daily
- The basics of power units, control systems and safety devices
- Reporting faults
- Using the manufacturer’s recommendations to operate the crane in various planes
- Controlling load movement with various load types
From the completion of this course, you will receive a CPCS Trained Operator Card (red card) and a CITB National Construction College certificate
