Course Outline
This course is for people who want the knowledge and skills to be able to operate a 360 mini excavator that can load up to 5 tonnes.
This course will provide you with knowledge and understanding of:
- Locating and identifying the major components of the machine and be able to explain their functions
- Gaining a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the machine that is being used
- Gaining a basic understanding of the industry, your responsibilities as a plant operator and the dangers of working in the industry
- Conducting all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identifying and maintaining PPE that is appropriate for mini excavator use
- Locating and identifying steering, driving and braking controls and be able to explain their functions
- Configuring the machine for travel and manoeuvring it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas
- Starting and stopping the engine and safely moving the machine off and be able to stop it safely
- Safely mounting and dismounting the machine
- Carrying out excavating tasks
- Manoeuvring the machine to the work area and correctly configuring it so it’s ready to carry out excavating tasks
- Conducting all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Fitting and removing attachments
- Reinstating excavation, grade and level ground
- Loading material onto transporting vehicles or into containers
- Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures
On completion of this course, you will receive an NPORS Operator Card.
