Course Outline
This course is for individuals who require the knowledge and skills needed to safely carry out lifting operations using a 360 Excavator.
The course will provide you with knowledge and understanding of:
- Locating, identifying and explaining safe working loads, lifting capacity chart and explain different lifting configurations and working ranges
- Being able to conform to manufacturer’s requirements as per technical data and conform to relevant regulations and legislation
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, your responsibilities as an operator and the dangers of working in the industry
- Identifying overhead and proximity hazards
- Identifying and explaining centres of gravity and calculating the estimated weight of loads
- Identifying and explaining different lifting procedures and be able to explain what task could fall into each category
- Checking load integrity and security by carrying out a trial lift
- Ensuring the excavator is in a safe condition for attachments to be fitted
- Agreeing on the signal codes/hand signals, the direction of movement, safe working and safe landing, placement zone with the slinger/signaller
- Carrying out all service and securing procedures
- Environmental considerations
- Being able to lift and move a load to a designated position in a safe and controlled manner, ensuring there is minimum uncontrolled movement
For entrants that wish to apply for the NPORS Traditional Card, there is no requirement to do an NVQ qualification. If the CSCS Tested Logo is required on the card, entrants must ensure they have attended and passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years. AN NVQ must be completed within the next 2 years.
