Course Outline
This course is for people who require a formal qualification for operating a Lorry Loader.
During this course, you will gain knowledge and understanding of:
- Being able to locate and identify the major components of the vehicle and loader crane and be able to explain their functions
- Having a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook, as well as other sources of information, legislation and regulations applicable to the particular machine being used
- Having a basic understanding of the industry, your responsibilities as a plant operator and the dangers of working in the industry
- Configuring the vehicle and loader crane so it’s ready for travel
- Conducting all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s and their legislative requirements
- Being able to locate and identify all of the operating controls and be able to explain their functions
- Manoeuvring the machine to the work area and correctly configuring in readiness to carry out lifting duties
- Conduct necessary safety checks at the work area
- Configuring the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas
- Identifying weights and the centre of gravity of loads that will be used
- Complying with all requirements for rated capacity indicators or load moment indicators
- Correctly deploying the stabilisers according to the stated manufacturer’s specifications
- Identifying, fitting and removing various attachments and lifting accessories as appropriate
- Positioning loads accurately at designated locations including onto and from the vehicle
- Carrying out lifting operations using the full capabilities of the loader crane
- Minimising load swing and ensuring load security on the vehicle
- Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures
For entrants that wish to apply for the NPORS Traditional Card, there is no requirement to do an NVQ qualification. If the CSCS Tested Logo is required on the card, entrants must ensure they have attended and passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years. AN NVQ must be completed within the next 2 years.
