NPORS – MEWP Scissor Lift (N109)
The Sheffield College is proud to have partnered with Van-Elle Ltd to deliver first-class construction services training courses for businesses and individuals.
Course Outline
This course is for people who require the knowledge and skills needed to enable them to safely operate a MEWP Scissor.
By undertaking this course you will gain knowledge and experience of:
- Being able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and be able to explain their functions
- Having a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used, and be familiar with other types of information sources and relevant legislation
- Having a basic understanding of the industry, your responsibilities as a plant operator and the dangers of working in the industry
- Safely mounting and dismounting the machine
- Checking all emergency lowering functions
- Conducting all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and their legislative requirements
- Conducting all necessary safety checks at the work area, including overhead and underground hazards
- Configuring the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely on level ground and inclines in open and confined areas
- Configuring the machine for travel
- Travelling with the platform raised (where applicable)
- Carrying out accessing tasks at various points up to the full operating height
- Manoeuvring the machine to the work area and correctly configuring it in readiness to carry out accessing tasks
- Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures
- Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for transporting machinery
- Using the platform extension section
For entrants that wish to apply for the NPORS Traditional Card, there is no requirement to do an NVQ qualification. If the CSCS Tested Logo is required on the card, entrants must ensure they have attended and passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years. AN NVQ must be completed within the next 2 years.
