Course Outline
This course is for those who need to know how to operate a mobile crane safely and productively.
This course will provide you with knowledge and understanding of:
- Having a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine that will be used
- Being able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and be able to explain their functions
- Having a basic understanding of the industry, your responsibilities as an operator and the dangers of working in the industry
- Setting up an exclusion zone
- Identifying and maintaining PPE that is appropriate for mobile crane use
- Being able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Preparing the mobile crane for use and operating the machine safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Conducting all pre-operational checks and running checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and their legislative requirements
- Carrying out all end of work and shut down procedures
For entrants that wish to apply for the NPORS Traditional Card, there is no requirement to do an NVQ qualification. If the CSCS Tested Logo is required on the card, entrants must ensure they have attended and passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years. AN NVQ must be completed within the next 2 years.
